A tragic incident in Portugal saw the demise of a Nepali youth, Dhan Bahadur Chhetri, aged 36, hailing from Kushma Municipality-13, Parbat. According to Umesh Khadka, President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association of Portugal, Chhetri succumbed to serious injuries inflicted by his friend, leading to his demise during treatment at Hospital Do Litoral Alentejano in Santiago, Portugal, on Thursday.
The unfortunate incident unfolded when Chhetri, a resident of Boavista, Odemira, Portugal, was stabbed by his 30-year-old room partner, Lokendra Gurung of Putlibazar-12, Parbat, last Tuesday night. Honorary Consul General in Portugal, Makar Bahadur Hamal, revealed that Gurung, under the influence of alcohol at the time, committed the stabbing.
Both Chhetri and Gurung had arrived in Portugal eight months ago for foreign employment and were employed in an agricultural company in Odemira. Following the incident, Gurung, who fled the scene, has been apprehended by the police and is currently under investigation. The tragic event has left the Nepali community in Portugal in shock and sorrow.
