Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha has successfully undergone an angioplasty surgery at the Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre in Bansbari. The procedure was performed on Tuesday evening by a team of doctors led by Dr. Arun Maskey.
Shrestha was admitted to the hospital earlier in the day after experiencing chest discomfort. A routine check-up revealed a blockage in one of his coronary arteries.
Angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that involves widening a narrowed or blocked artery using a balloon. The procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis, but Shrestha is being kept at the hospital for observation.
“The surgery was successful and the Deputy Prime Minister is now recovering in the ICU,” said a spokesperson for the Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre. “His condition is stable and he is expected to make a full recovery.”
Shrestha was previously diagnosed with a heart condition during an official visit to China in October. He underwent an emergency coronary angiography test at the time, which showed a blockage in one of his arteries.
The Deputy Prime Minister is expected to be discharged from the hospital within the next few days.
